VASEK POLAK SR.

Vasek Polak Sr. escaped from Czechoslovakia in 1949 and made his way to Manhattan Beach, California in the mid-1950s to open his repair shop that, in 1959 became the first stand-alone Porsche dealership in the United States. He led a successful racing program in the 1960s and ‘70s and continues to be an icon in Porsche history.

VASEK POLAK, THE LEGACY.

Vasek Polak joined his father’s dealership and racing team, Vasek Polak Racing, in the 1960s as a trained mechanic. Vasek’s work with his father provided a strong foundation for his expertise, continued passion and involvement in the Porsche community.

88

Vasek Polak Sr. earned his spot in automotive history by creating the very first stand-alone Porsche dealership in North America and by extending his mechanical and racing prowess to place the Porsche marque on the motorsports map. Starting number 88 played an early and very significant role in that effort.

The origin of #88 was on a 1947 MG owned by John Edgar and raced by Jack McAfee in the early 1950s. In 1955, a used Porsche Spyder purchased by Edgar later bore the same number and thanks to Vasek Polak, became one of the most recognized starting numbers in the world of motorsport. While making his name as lead mechanic for Jack’s racing efforts, Vasek continued work in his renowned repair shop at 356 S Sepulveda Blvd. in Manhattan Beach, CA – preparing sports cars for the likes of Jack MacAfee, Jerry Titus, Milt Minter, Johnny von Neumann, and Davey Jordan, leading the way to custom built motorsports success. Throughout his own racing career, Vasek Polak’s favorite starting number remained 88. He loved the Spyders and it was that Porsche model that made him famous for his expertise.

The Polak family is sole owner of this site and the Vasek Polak name and registered trademark.
